Amanda Sudimack

It’s an amazing feeling after editing almost two decades of work to love what I made in 1998 as much as my work from today. My goal has always been to make TIMELESS art that resonates with me, my clients, and their family over time as much as it does the day it’s made. I feel so lucky all these amazing clients and friends in my life let me do this for a living. I archive life, create art, and make books for awesome clients—what could be better?”

A little more about me...

+ What's your style?

My work is classic. Timeless. Authentic. Sometimes romantic. Always real.

I'm a journalist in that I respect the moment and love capturing it authentically. But I'm also a highly skilled portrait artist. On a wedding day, you want a photographer that excels at both skill sets.

You also want a photographer that's a people-person!

How I work with you from day one is highly personalized to what you want and need. I lead you the entire way through each part of the process. From the decision making, to contract, through the wedding day planning, and yes, reminding you to drink water during the wedding—all the way through delivering your album.

I believe how I make you feel and laugh along the entire journey with me is just as important as the high quality and overwhelming excellence I consistently deliver in the photographs and story design. And I'll inject as much fun and humor along the way as you'll let me.

+ Black & White or Color?

Trick question deserves trick answer...they both warm my heart.

+ Number of weddings I've documented?

Me personally? Over 600. (Crazy, no?) Artisan Events has documented over 2000 events.

+ Do you work alone?

I believe in team work—I know we create better work together. I've built this company on that premise and I work best on weddings with 1-2 other photographers and 1-2 film-makers if you opt for video commission. This ensures comprehensive coverage, multiple perspectives, diversity in your portfolio—so many positive attributes that will help you be absolutely wow'd by the work we deliver. Each wedding is very different so keep in mind we'll discuss this, and so many other topics, in great detail before you officially hire me.

+ What's your favorite part of the wedding?

I'm a big believer in honesty. My favorite part of weddings is delivering the album to you. I know, that's not what you expected. I looove shooting weddings—don't get me wrong.

I am all-in working so hard to capture every tiny detail to the big picture, making sure you're happy as can be, helping your family along the way all while I'm thinking 10 steps ahead (without you knowing that). I'm really good at what I do and I looove it. But my absolute favorite part of the process is handing you your new family wedding album. Because I know it will make you and your family happy for generations to come. I've finished helping you tell your beautiful story at that stage and to me that's the priceless moment I cherish the most.

P.S. If you asked me my "Favorite Part of the Wedding Day" I'd probably tell you the toasts. I love toasts and yes, I'm super-ugly crying behind the camera 99% of the time.

+ Film or Digital?

Another trick question! I love digital and film. And I shoot both digital and film. I'm a formally trained fine art film photographer that hasn't forgotten why I fell in love with photography. But to me they are tools and they should used in the situations they each excel at best. So if you hire me (yay—can't wait to work with you) you will have a mix of both but here's the won't be able to tell the difference when you get your portfolio. I edit for it all to be seamless.

+ How many weddings do you photograph a year?

Just a few—I limit my weddings each year to a select handful of clients. I've photographed weddings for over 20 years and I know the sweet spot for me to produce my best work. Capping my commissions at 6-8 a year allows me to focus my creative energy and attention on you and deliver work I’m proud to share.

+ Who edits your work?

I edit my own work—every image you receive is produced to my exact artistic vision. This is a very important question to ask anyone you are considering.

+ Starting price?

My wedding commissions start at $9,700.

+ Will you travel?

Yes—London, Paris, Grenada, Hawaii, Colorado, Mexico are just a few places my work has taken me. I welcome the opportunity to travel for your wedding or portrait commission.

Amanda and her team did

a wonderful job of capturing every moment of our daughter's wedding from start to finish. We were impressed with their work during our selection process and are so very happy that we selected them. Amanda did engagement photos and made our daughter and son-in-law very comfortable with her and the camera all before the wedding. Amanda was extremely communicative in planning for the Big Day and was prompt in producing amazing photos of a day that we will never forget. Amanda and her team are true professionals and we highly recommend them!

Kind words mean the world to me…

+ We have known Amanda for over twelve years, from meeting her ahead of our wedding through family sessions in destinations in Europe. When we selected Amanda as our wedding photographer, it was because her work stood out among the many photographers we met with. Amanda has an eye for capturing personality and spirit, from often overlooked details to the larger scale. Amanda has gracefully mastered being able to capture a moment in a single frame as well as tell a story through a series of photos... (read more)

As the events unfolded on the day of our wedding, Amanda professionally and discreetly captured the special moments of the festivities. She applied her experience, talent and creativity to providing a magnificent visual display of the day. And, to top it all off, Amanda is a warm, gracious, and fun person with whom to be; she is absolutely the right person to include in one’s wedding day.

About 18 months later, we were ready for family portraits with our newborn daughter. There was no question regarding with whom we wanted to work. We did not hesitate to reach out to Amanda to see if we could schedule a session with her. Amanda was immediately receptive and helpful in coming up with alternatives for us to meet. We were coming from Asia into Chicago for our session with Amanda and were dedicating time in our short trip home to meet with her. We were determined that we would fit in a session with Amanda to capture our family in photos as thoughtfully and beautifully as she had done with our wedding day. Amanda again created an instantly comfortable atmosphere, being receptive to our thoughts but putting her unique edge and creative spin into the pictures. Over the years, we have regularly scheduled time with Amanda to capture our family in photos. She has become a friend through the years, and someone our girls now expect to see as part of our trips to the US to visit family. Even though we still live overseas, and many of our family has left the Chicago area, we purposefully fit in time to have sessions with Amanda.

As the years have progressed and our daughters have grown up with Amanda knowing them, Amanda has an understanding of their personalities and, in fact, of our family’s personality. Our daughters are comfortable and playful with Amanda, enabling Amanda to capture their spirits on film in the way that reveals their personalities beautifully.

The story of our wedding and our growing family is also revealed through the photos we have chosen to frame and the albums that we have developed together with Amanda. She provides suggestions and advice on how to tell a story through the album and its unique layout. She has endless patience for working with us on selecting the photos for the albums and for gallery wall, as we have a very difficult time weeding down from so many fantastic pictures. Amanda is sensitive in her advice but also willing to provide straightforward feedback if asked. Her artistic talent lies both in taking the photo initially but then helpful to display it uniquely and beautifully in an album or on a wall. As the years have progressed, so too have our orders of Amanda’s photos in our albums. She has managed to capture the spirit of our daughters so beautifully through her pictures that we simply cannot resist having the photos displayed in albums or in frames. Our gallery wall of images by Amanda may now rival in numbers the display of work in Amanda’s work studio!

We would not hesitate to work with Amanda on capturing our family’s story through photos or telling our family’s story. Amanda has a knack for reading people and capturing moments that lends itself to thoughtfully presenting a personality, a moment, or an event.

As a photographer myself,

the choice of who to use as the photographer at my own wedding was one I took very seriously. I can honestly say that I could not have chosen a better photographer than Amanda. Her images are absolutely beautiful and her kind personality made working with her a pleasure. Every time I look at the wonderful photographs in our wedding album, I am instantly reminded of the joy and love that filled our island wedding.
